An official timeline of the Blade Runner films, shorts, TV series and comics

If you’re a lover of Blade Runner like me, you want to consume the whole story of Blade Runner universe in order–and that can be tricky. While I was able to find a few references that have things in order, I couldn’t find one that had all canon stories in correct order.

So I’ve set out to provide that for fans and keep it up to date. The list below is all the canon stories (stories that are “officially” in the Blade Runner universe) in the order they should be read/watched.

Blade Runner: Origins

Graphic Novel, 2021

Timeline: 2009

When a Tyrell Corporation scientist working on an experimental new type of Replicant is discovered dead in her laboratory, the victim of an apparent suicide, LAPD detective Cal Moreau, a PTSD sufferer, is called in to investigate a vast conspiracy, one that runs to the very top of the Tyrell Corporation tower.

Feature Film, 1982

Timeline: 2019

In the smog-choked dystopian Los Angeles of 2019, blade runner Rick Deckard is called out of retirement to terminate a quartet of replicants who have escaped to Earth seeking their creator for a way to extend their short life spans.

Graphic Novel, 2018

Timeline: 2019

There’s a new Blade Runner in town, and she’s out for blood. Replicant blood. When a rich industrialist’s wife and young daughter go missing, seemingly the victims of a Replicant kidnapping, Blade Runner Ash is called in to rescue them before they end up on a slab or worse. As Ash’s investigation deepens she uncovers a shocking secret that could very well end up costing her her life.

Blade Runner: Black Lotus

TV Series, 2021

Timeline: 2032

Los Angeles, 10 years after the Blackout of 2022. A young woman wakes up with no memories and possesses deadly skills. The only clues to her mystery are a locked data device and a tattoo of a black lotus. Putting together the pieces, she must hunt down the people responsible for her brutal and bloody past to find the truth of her lost identity.

Blade Runner: Black Lotus – Leaving L.A.

Comic Series, 2022

Timeline: 2032

An all-new cast of characters including Nia Wallace, heir to the Tyrell empire and future creator of the JOI hologram and the Replicant Love from Blade Runner 2049. The series reveals a world of Blade Runner not previously explored, and features an new type of Replicant not seen before – the deadly Nexus 9.
 

2036: Nexus Dawn

Short Film, 2017

Timeline: 2036

Wallace presents a new Nexus-9 replicant to lawmakers in an attempt to have a prohibition on replicants lifted.

Prologue 2 for Feature Film Blade Runner 2049

Comic Series, 2023

Timeline: 2039

It’s been three years since Niander Wallace launched his ‘perfectly obedient’ Replicants, and his assistant, Luv, became the first Replicant Blade Runner.

Now Cleo Selwyn has returned to L.A. searching for her Replicant mother Isobel whom she believes has been kidnapped by Niander Wallace. The only person who can help her is disgraced former Blade Runner Aahna ‘Ash’ Ashina.

2048: Nowhere to Run

Officer K, a new blade runner for the LAPD, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. His discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard, a former blade runner who’s been missing for 30 years.

Blade Runner 2099

TV Series, Upcoming to Amazon Studios

Timeline: 2099

As indicated by Blade Runner 2099‘s title, the latest installment of the neo-noir sci-fi franchise will be set 50 years after the film sequel.
